
Dick Shryock, worked for MaineHealth – Maine Medical Center, Department of Emergency Medicine, retiring in September 2013, after thirty years. The bulk of his career was working in information technology.
When Dick wasn’t working with computers he did woodworking at home and made furniture, wooden bowls, pens, bottle stoppers as well as handles for any number of tools. After his retirement, he began woodcarving and found that was his passion.
In May of 2019 Gerry Holzman, creator of The Empire State Carousel in New York did a presentation for the Southern Maine Woodcarvers’ Guild. After talking with Gerry and his daughter, Jill Irving, who painted many of the animals for the carousel, Dick was hooked on carousels.
